Welcome to my first salon 73 blog post. First and for most I'd like to thank the lovely Heidi Bawden from heidibawdenvideo.co.uk for filming, taking photos and revamping our website. It looks totally amazing!!!
The reason for this blog page is to let you, 'the client' get to know us 'the Salon73 team'. Over the past 25 years that I've been hairdressing, I've come to realise that it's a traumatic experience walking into a busy salon full of strange people and although we too are a little strange (sorry ladies). I wanted to show you that as well as very talented stylists we are also ordinary, nice, rather interesting people. There are 10 of us all together, so today lets start with me... Hi, I'm Vanessa.... Oh you want more!!! I've been hairdressing for over 25 years and absolutely LOVE my job. I'm passionate about hair, my boys (more about them later), the salon, living life to the absolute fullest, my friends and family. I love dry humour, shopping, coffee, interesting people and white chocolate. I can't stand negativity, boats, Brussel sprouts and fish... Yuk. I am a mother of two boys, one 11 and one 13. I go to work for a break (anyone with children will be nodding and agreeing right now!) They are my world but I love to step into another calmer world for a while. I live with my husband Simon who is a shop fitter - which comes in handy at the Salon!! I am the youngest of four siblings and have the most amazing mum and dad. Well that's just a little about me! I want to finish my blog posts with a little hair tip or fact, some funny, some useful and some just totally strange. So because my blog post today was about walking into strange salons, here's a strange fact about hair.... Women dyed their hair in ancient times, by mixing pigeon poop with ashes and then slathered it all over their hair. They then dunked their head in a pot of urine. Why? The ammonia from human urine acted as a bleach, stripping the hair of it's natural colour. It appears that in ancient times, if women couldn't achieve that sun-kissed look, they settled for a visit to the lavatory... Yuk, I don't think we'll be using this in the salon any time soon.... Vanessa x
